| Amya Beads was founded three years ago from the owner’s passion to create beautiful handmade jewellery and to help Australian crafters and artists do the same.
Started from a tottering pile of boxes in a garage, Amya Beads’ ever-growing range of beads now lives happily cheek by jowl in a cosy little shop at 723B Centre Road, Bentleigh East, Victoria.
Amya Beads takes pride in providing the best service and top-quality beads and findings — you’ll find Swarovski crystals and pearls, Czech handmade lampwork beads, Czech fire-polished beads, semi-precious stones, a comprehensive range of sterling-silver and base metal findings and much more.
The store is open to the public on Saturdays (10am to 4pm). But make a quick phone call or email on a weekday and the store will happily open its doors to you. The online store is yours 24 hours a day, with $3 flat-rate postage offered to all Australian destinations.
While you’re online, check out what workshops are available at Amya Beads — it could be the perfect opportunity to learn a new technique or try out a new beading medium. | This is quite possibly the perfect online bead store to feed your beading addiction — www.beadsonline.com.au
Beads Online began as a
part-time eBay business in 2006 when Judith Jacob wanted an outlet for her bead obsession. For years she’d been creating personalised jewellery as presents for friends and when the 100th person asked where they could get one of Judith’s customised pieces, she finally decided to set up her business.
As Judith is aware of the difficult fiscal reality these days, there’s always a great deal on offer at her store, such as 10 per cent off a certain line of beads. Judith adds, “The website is really easy to navigate. Customers also love that because we only operate online, prices are comparatively low to other companies.
“The world of beads is great, as people always buy beads and accessories. They are a great way to treat yourself and update your look cheaply. Lots of customers also love creating individual presents for loved ones. You have the joy of making it and giving a one-off customised piece you’ll never find anywhere else. I feel like I’m living my dream life. I never imagined that I’d be lucky enough to create my dream job from my love of jewellery.”
Why we love Beads Online:

* $3 flat shipping rate.
* Seven-day no-questions-asked return policy.

| BeadSmith Metal Hole Punch Pliers with Gauge Guard™
These pliers punch a hole in metal sheet stock up to 22 gauge. They create a smooth, clean hole without barbs or rough edges. Plus, with the gauge guard, the area around the hole will be free of unsightly indentations! There are three tools to choose from, each of which makes a different diameter hole size: 1.25mm, 1.5mm, or 1.8mm. Ask for them at your favorite bead store!
Here's how they work!
Hold the pliers shut. When properly adjusted, there should be enough space to insert your metal piece to be punched between the widest part of the pin (A) and the bottom jaw of the pliers (B) with a little extra room left over (A/B labels refer to image at left). If the metal doesn’t fit or if there’s no extra space, simply expand the jaw opening a little farther by turning the gauge guard screw to the RIGHT. Use a small phillips head screwdriver to adjust the gauge guard (RIGHT for heavy gauge, LEFT for light gauge).*
*NOTE: Do not remove the gauge guard screw. Operating the tool without the screw in place can cause damage to the plier. |

| Dear beaders,
With the shop lease up for renewal late last year, we decided that after four years at Norman Park it was possible to run the operation from the home studio just a couple of suburbs away in Seven Hills, with a few modifications. One change was to build a new undercover courtyard with a large enough area to run outdoor classes and be protected from the weather. The other was to convert the front room of the house into the showroom with our products on display and double sliding doors that go straight out to the paved courtyard for alfresco-style beading classes. With young twin boys, this arrangement also allows me to include them in my beading world — along with the hubby, of course.
It has taken a few months for our regular customers to find us but they are all pleasantly surprised when they realise the same great products are all still available — with lots of new exciting items such as vintage clasps and buttons — and that they still receive the same fantastic service.
2011 has seen us focusing on the Australian craft circuit with Expertise Events, including trips to 10 of the major shows. It is at these shows that we are making inroads to establish ourselves as one of the more innovative and exciting provider of DIY kits, with a range exceeding 100 different designs and techniques to choose from and with five or six colour combinations of each. We will be teaching at each of the shows in order to share our skills and knowledge with those who wouldn’t normally be able to get into bead shops — we have made lots of new connections with some lovely customers and we look forward to meeting even more of you.
If you love online shopping, we have also updated our website, with our intention to keep adding as many products as possible throughout the year.
If you haven’t checked out our products or seen us at the shows — why not? We’re only a click away!
Kindest regards
Monica Anthon
